1981 Gibson Super 400

Price: $7,995.00 (SOLD)

Here's one of Gibson's legendary archtops from 1981. The Super 400 has a 18" lower bout and a 3"-3/8" body depth. The oversized headstock, solid spruce top, solid maple sides, and the high-quality craftsmanship give it the unmistakable Gibson jazz tone, which is one of the fattest sounds you can get. This guitar was stamped "second" at the factory on the headstock. Although you can't see why, there's story behind that. In order to compete with the Japan imports, Gibson needed to lower there prices. One way to do that was to label some stock as seconds, therefore still keeping some at the higher price. You could settle for Ibanez import or for a few bucks more get a Gibson stamped "second." It worked, and Gibson lived on. There is no shortage of quality in this archtop! All of our archtops have been personally setup by Rich and include super low action, extremely smooth playability, and Rich's custom gauge strings. They also include a nice hardshell case.
